The fue-fuki, or “piper,” motif that has been drawn for more than 60 years by pottery manufacturer KUTANI CHOEMON, is now a skeleton puffing on a pipe. The design uses a copperplate transfer printing technique that was the standard in Hasami ceramic painting during the Meiji and Taisho eras.
