MANDALA Rim Bowl

Kunpu
This pattern is based on the image of plants swaying in the wind, made by dabbing the surface of the bisque using a sponge covered in gosu blue pigment.

Hirin
“This hirin pattern is based on the image of the sun.
First, we spray two kinds of glaze onto the bisque after covering it with a matte glaze.
We then slowly and carefully spray each piece to create a delicate speckled pattern. You’re sure to enjoy the complex colors that emerge from the reaction between the different glazes.”

Madarayuki
This pattern is based on the image of snow covering the ground.
We apply a rich gosu blue paint with a sponge to a dynamically textured surface made by applying a slip.

Shirotae
This bowl’s surface has the appearance of the unevenness of kaolin clay.
The sponge is soaked in a slip mixture and used to strike the bisque, which creates a rich texture.

Karasuba
This pattern is based on the image of a bird flapping its wings. A red iron-rich clay slip is applied with a brush to create dynamic, rough surface, after which a black glaze is applied. Afterwards, the surface glaze is removed with a sponge to reveal the rich, reddish-earth look of the underlying iron.
